PORT CLINTON -- A 3-month-old boy found not breathing in his crib on Tuesday died of natural causes, the Ottawa County coroner has ruled.

Dr. Daniel Cadigan said that a cause of death is pending a final autopsy report from the Lucas County coroner's office. The preliminary autopsy report indicates "the manner of death was natural," Dr. Cadigan said today.

The sheriff's office took a a 911 call Tuesday morning from the infant's father in the 1200 block of Fremont Road in Bay Township who reported  that the boy was not breathing. The infant was face down in his crib when found, Ottawa County Sheriff Stephen Levorchick said. The father performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation as directed by the 911 operator until an ambulance arrived. The infant was pronounced dead at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton.

A sheriff's office investigation remains open pending results of toxicology tests, Sheriff Levorchick said.
