Suspected drugs seized during search of Tiffin business

TIFFIN -- Authorities from local and state agencies seized suspected synthetic drugs Friday during a search of a Tiffin business.

Authorities found what they believe to be synthetic marijuana, also known as "spice" or "K2," Tiffin police said, plus drug paraphernalia, cash, and financial records during the search at Zig Stag on East Market Street. 

A search warrant was sought after a year-long investigation by the Seneca County Drug Task Force-METRICH Enforcement Unit. That probe was spurred by complaints received by Tiffin police and the Seneca County sheriff's office of abuse among juveniles and young adults of the substances.

"The abuse of these substances is becoming a problem, not only in our community, but across the entire state, and its literally poisoning our children," said detective Charles Boyer, coordinator of the METRICH unit, in a statement.

Drug-related and other charges are pending, authorities said.

Agencies taking part included the Tiffin police; the Seneca County task force; the Ohio attorney general's office, and the state taxation department.
