Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio officials say at least one area veteran has been targeted for a scam involving the Honor Flights.

Someone has been calling World War II veterans, asking for credit card information and a $35 deposit to participate in an Honor Flight. The flights are actually free of charge to veterans, and board members "would never ask for credit card information," the group said.

The organization has confirmed one veteran was duped by the scam, and say he gave out his credit card information and paid the $35 "fee."

"It could have happened before," Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio President Lee Armstrong said, "because when we've called people and invited them on flights we've had people hang up on us."

Anyone who has been solicited for money for Honor Flights can contact Northwest Ohio Honor Flight at 419-410-7729 or hfnwo@bex.net.
