Vacant E. Toledo house burns on Nevada Street

A fire Wednesday burned a vacant Nevada Street house to the ground. Toledo firefighters were summoned about 7:25 a.m. Toledo police said the street was closed to traffic for about two hours.

Fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said firefighters fought the blaze without entering the house, which later partially collapsed, he said.

What remained of the house was torn down later in the day.

The fire was so intense that it damaged a vacant house next door, at 28 Nevada, Lieutenant Hertzfeld said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about two and a half hours, at which time traffic on Nevada returned to normal, according to a fire dispatcher.

The Lucas County auditor's Web site lists Wayne Cole as the owner of the house at 30 Nevada.

The single-story wood frame house was built in 1912.

The last time it burned was in the summer of 2012, according to the lieutenant.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
