OAK HARBOR -- The U.S. Coast Guard and Ottawa County authorities have ended their search for a suspected missing person in Lake Erie off Ottawa County today.

Authorities searched for nearly three hours but found no indication that anyone had gone through the ice off the 8800 block of Sand Beach Road.

The Marblehead Coast Guard ice rescue team and a Coast Guard helicopter from Detroit were on the scene, according to the Coast Guard sector office in Detroit.

Patrolman James Meek of the Carroll Township Police Department said a report came at 9:48 a.m. from a resident of Sand Beach Road who saw a person walking on the ice, possibly a fisherman, who a few minutes later had disappeared from view. The search ended about 12:45 p.m.

Authorities asked the public's help in identifying anyone who was missing or who had been out on the ice.

The Ottawa County Dive Team and the Coast Guard searched in boats, and a Coast Guard helicopter searched from above.
