Ohio couple killed in crash in Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Two Pandora, Ohio, residents were killed Sunday near Fort Myers, Fla., when their vehicle collided with a Lee County Sheriff’s car responding to a 911 call.

John Steffen, 84, and Marilyn Steffen, 77, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Pandora in Putnam County died in the two-car crash, which occurred 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Deputy Roberto Torres, 28, was traveling east on St. Rte. 80 with emergency lights on when a car driven by Mr. Steffen pulled out to turn left into Deputy Torres’ path, according the Florida Highway Patrol.

Mr. Torres received minor injuries, authorities reported. All three were wearing seat belts.
