14-year-old approached by man in car

A 14-year-old girl who attends Bowsher High School reported to authorities that she was approached today by a man who offered to give her a ride.

The girl told police that a man driving a dark blue vehicle began following her as she was walking on Airport Highway near Fearing Boulevard.

When the girl was in the 700 block of South Detroit Avenue, the man asked her if she needed a ride. She then ran away, authorities said.

Toledo police plan to have extra patrols in the area near the high school Tuesday, a department spokesman said.

The man was described by police as being in his late 20s with brown hair and wearing a blue jacket.
