FREMONT -- The discovery of an unidentified male found Sunday along a road south of Fremont near Sandusky River is still under investigation.

The body has been turned over to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, which is conducting an autopsy, Jim Consolo, a detective captain for the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department, said today.

No further details are available, pending results of the autopsy, which normally takes 1 to 2 days to complete, Mr. Consolo said.

A group of fishermen discovered the body on Sunday near the river as they were walking in the shallow part of the water, Mr. Consolo said. Authorities were called to the 1400 block of Sand Street near North Street, just outside the city limits, at 12:37 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Department is working with the Fremont Police Department on the case. Authorities are still trying to determine whether the body found is that of a person missing since mid-January, Mr. Consolo said.
