Sylvania Twp. man killed in shootout with police near Cleveland

SOLON, Ohio — A 22-year-old Sylvania Township man was killed during a shootout with police Sunday night in Solon, near Cleveland.

According to police reports, Kevin Bailey fled from police during a traffic stop at Bainbridge Road at Sharondale Drive at 9:45 p.m. After crashing his vehicle on Sunnywood Drive, he began shooting at approaching officers.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office is performing the autopsy.

The incident has been turned over to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation. No further information is available.

According to Toledo Municipal Court records, Mr. Bailey was due in Toledo Municipal Court on March 27 for trial on several charges, including drug abuse, obstructing official business, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, running a red light, failure to stop after an accident, failure to display license plates, and wear a seat belt.

In January, he pleaded no contest in the same court to carrying a loaded handgun in a motor vehicle in November and was fined $200, but failed to pay it and $184 in court costs.
