Tam-O-Shanter cited for liquor violation

Tam-O-Shanter, the Sylvania sports complex operated by the Sylvania Recreation District, has been cited for serving alcohol to a minor.

At 10:40 p.m. Thursday, an underage informant of the Ohio Department of Public Safety bought an alcoholic beverage at The Loft, a restaurant with a bar at Tam-O-Shanter, 7060 Sylvania Ave. Raymond Rodriguez of the state agency said the bartender did not ask the buyer for identification or his age.

Mr. Rodriguez said the state agency explored an anonymous tip received in September. The caller advised that teenagers were being served alcohol after 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

A Tam-O-Shanter official said it was a singular incident.

“I don’t believe it is the culture of our staff to serve underage individuals,” said Tom Cline, general manager.

Tam-O-Shanter will appear before the Ohio Liquor Control Commission for the civil citation. A date has not been set. The server in the incident is expected to face charges.
