WAUSEON - A 10-year-old Napoleon boy was killed today when the van carrying him and three family members overturned several times after leaving the road in Fulton County's York Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Zayne Holifield, of Napoleon, was transported to the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, where he was pronounced dead. He was a passenger in the 1995 Chevrolet Astro driven by his father, Lucas Holifield, 30.

Mr. Holifield told troopers that he drove into a snowdrift about 1 p.m. as he was driving east on Township Road C, west of Township Road 8 and about 5 miles east of Wauseon, The drift caused him to lose control and veer off the right side of the roadway. The van overturned several times in a field.

Mr. Holifield and his sons, Hayden Holifield, 2, and Tucker Holifield, 8, were treated at the Fulton County Health Center. Hayden lives with his father in Stryker and Tucker lives with his mother in Napoleon, troopers said.

The driver and the two older boys were wearing seat belts, with Zayne sitting in the middle bench behind his father and Tucker in the right front passenger seat. The baby was sitting in a booster seat in the right seat of the middle bench.

Sgt. Rick Vitte said Mr. Holifield and his sons were traveling to the Toledo area to visit his mother and sister. He said the accident remains under investigation.
