Suspect in slashing death apprehended

A Toledo man accused in an East Toledo slashing death has been apprehended, officials said.

John Garcia, Jr., 33, surrendered to the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force today.

The suspect is charged with murder and felonious assault. Killed was Christopher Ogden, 40; Brenda Watts, 36, was injured in the attack.

According to court documents, Ogden and Garcia were in a fight Thursday morning at the victim's Woodford Street residence when the victim was slashed multiple times. Ms. Watts tried to break up the fight and was cut with a pocket knife, according to court documents.

Ogden, according to an autopsy, died of multiple sharp-force injuries to his head, torso, and arms.
