MONROE -- Authorities were involved in a high-speed chase today on northbound I-75 that originated in Perrysburg Township and ended near LaPlaisance Road in Monroe Township when the car's occupants crashed and then fled on foot.

Township police began chasing a leased van about noon on I-75 after the suspects allegedly stole appliances and electronics from the Best Buy store on 10017 Fremont Pike.

Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone said Toledo Police and Lucas County Sheriff's deputies joined the pursuit, which reached speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The driver went off the roadway to avoid stop sticks deployed by Monroe County deputies and crashed into a fence near Lighthouse Road. A suspect was immediately arrested and a second man was apprehended later after he was found hiding in a shed near the crash scene.

The men, whose names are not being made available, face charges in Wood County and Michigan.
