Fire department recruit charged with drunken driving

A Toledo Fire Department recruit is on unpaid administrative leave after being charged with drunken driving.

MyShan Veasley-Pettis, 23, 1116 Buckingham St., is charged in Toledo Municipal Court with driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.08 but less than 0.17, and a marked-lanes violation.

Mr. Veasley-Pettis was stopped by a state trooper March 31 on West Laskey Road near Secor Road at 2:13 a.m. for the marked-lanes violation, according to a court summons. The trooper reported that Mr. Veasley-Pettis registered a 0.167 blood-alcohol content during a breath test. The legal driving limit in Ohio is 0.08.

Fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said the recruit was on paid administrative leave from March 31 through Sunday and began unpaid leave Monday. He is to remain on unpaid leave pending any departmental disciplinary action.

Mr. Veasley-Pettis was sworn in for training in December and is scheduled to graduate May 3.
