The Monroe County sheriff's department today arrested a 41-year-old woman suspected in the armed holdup of a Summerfield Township gas station today.

Sheriff's deputies said the suspect was arrested near Summerfield Middle School at 10:30 a.m. after her description was broadcast. The name of the woman, who lives in Monroe County, was not immediately released.

Deputies said the store clerk at Lightning Quick Gas and Go, 640 Saline St, in Petersburg, told investigators the robber pulled a handgun, identified by authorities as a .22-caliber weapon, from her waist, pointed it at the clerk, and demanded all the money in the register and the keys to the store safe at 9:22 a.m. The clerk handed over about $300 in cash and the robber fled on foot.

The woman was located by a deputy sheriff while she was walking in the neighborhood carrying the handgun. Officials said the woman refused another deputy's verbal commands to stop, and then began removing her outer clothing and threw the handgun and money on the ground. A deputy with a police dog found the woman hiding behind bushes.

Deputies said she was intoxicated and uncooperative and faces charges of armed robbery.
