Erie man held on multiple charges after Saturday police chase

TEMPERANCE — An Erie man is being held on multiple charges following a Saturday police chase.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said a 45-year-old man failed to stop for Washington Township police in Lucas County after allegedly committing violations and led police on a chase that continued from Ohio into Michigan. Monroe authorities were alerted just after 7 p.m. to the chase, which reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, authorities said.

The driver evaded road spikes placed by Monroe County deputies, but then drove off the road at Sterns and Crabb roads in Bedford Township south of Temperance.

Authorities said the driver then rammed into a Washington Township police car and crashed just north of the intersection. The driver, whose name was not released, was taken into custody by Monroe County deputies.

He is being held at the Monroe County Jail on charges of felonious assault with a motor vehicle on a police officer, resisting and obstructing, operating while intoxicated second offense, driving with a suspended license, and fleeing and eluding police. No injuries were reported.
