No drunken-driving arrests at checkpoint

BRYAN — A drunken-driving checkpoint and nearby saturation patrols just north of town Friday night yielded no intoxicated drivers but had public-awareness benefits, an Ohio Highway Patrol official said.

The checkpoint was set up from 9 p.m. to midnight on U.S. 127 just south of its northerly junction with State Rt. 15 in Pulaski Township. None of 560 vehicles that passed through was diverted for secondary inspection, a patrol statement said.

Lt. Kevin Thomas, commander of the patrol’s Defiance post, said that despite brief traffic delays, officers “received a tremendous amount of public support” and the event “was beneficial for the public awareness and voluntary compliance.”

Also, the Ohio Investigative Unit checked six nearby businesses with liquor permits and found no violations, the highway patrol said.
