Four people, including two children, were left homeless when a fire damaged their West Toledo home today, authorities said.

All occupants had escaped unhurt by the time fire crews arrived about 12:50 a.m. and saw flames outside of the house at 4808 Bowser Dr., said Toledo fire Battalion Chief John Kaminski.

Firefighters attacked the flames and had the fire under control in 14 minutes, but not before it spread to the attic of the one-story wood-frame house, he said.

The fire had started on the outside wall, below the shingles of the asphalt-shingled house, the chief said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. The damage was estimated at $6.000, according to Chief Kaminski.

The American Red Cross was at the scene to assist the fire victims.

The Lucas County auditor's Web site lists John and Karen Corbin as the owners of the single-family house. It was built in 1922.
