HELENA, Ohio -- Two people died today in a two-vehicle crash at U.S. 6 near Sandusky County Road 32 in Scott Township, troopers at the Fremont post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said a minivan driven by John L. Clark, 56, of Huron, Ohio, was westbound on U.S. 6 about 4:30 p.m. when he crossed the center line and struck an eastbound sport-utility vehicle driven by Carlla A. Dixon-Bowers, 49, of Lima, Ohio.

Mrs. Dixon-Bowers was pronounced dead at the scene. She did not wear a seat belt. Mr. Clark was flown by medical helicopter at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where he died. He wore a seat belt.

Two passengers in Mr. Clark's minivan, Cynthia Clark, 55, and Jennifer Clark, 25, both of Huron, were taken to Fremont Memorial Hospital. Their conditions were not available, but troopers said they wore seat belts, and their injuries were not life threatening.

The crash, which closed U.S. 6 for three hours, is under investigation. Troopers did not believe alcohol was a factor.

Helena is nearly 30 miles southeast of Toledo.
