A Rossford man died and a Monclova Township man was hurt after their sport-utility vehicle and motorcycle collided today on State Rt. 65 near the Ohio Turnpike in Perrysburg Township.

Burdette Waxler, 67, who was driving a 2012 Ford Escape, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. He wore a seat belt, troopers said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Waxler possibly suffered a medical condition prior to the traffic crash, according to the patrol.

Ricky Metzger, 57, the motorcyclist, was also taken to St. Luke’s Hospital. He suffered serious injuries but they did not appear to be life-threatening, the patrol reported. A hospital spokesman said he had no information about a patient by that name.

Mr. Waxler was driving southwest on Route 65 about 6:55 a.m. when he drove across the center line and struck the 2007 Yamaha driven by Mr. Metzger in the opposite direction, the patrol said. The Escape then went off the south side of the state route and struck several mailboxes, a fire hydrant, and several small trees, troopers said.
