An autopsy was scheduled today by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for James Safadi, a businessman who was fatally shot early Saturday in his Waterville Township home, while authorities continued to investigate the incident.

Township police and sheriff’s officials reported no developments on Sunday.

Mr. Safadi, 34, and his family own several carryout stores in the Toledo area, the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office said.

He was shot in the chest with a handgun shortly before 6 a.m. at 8940 S. River Rd.

Investigators said his girlfriend, who was unharmed, had locked herself in a bathroom and called 911 after the intruders left.

Authorities described the assailants as three black men who were dressed in black and wore masks.

Investigators, who described the incident as a home invasion, said it did not appear to be random.
