A North Toledo home was being razed today after a fire destroyed the property.

The fire at 2034 N. Erie St. was reported at 5:04 a.m., said Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld of the Toledo Fire Department.

When crews arrived, the fire at the two-story vacant house was heavily involved, the lieutenant said. Firefighters went into the home, but found holes in the first floor and evacuated.

An attempt to fight the fire from the second floor was made, but the fire was so bad, crews pulled out and went defensive, Lieutenant Hertzfeld said.

The holes in the floor appeared to be fire damage, not intentional.

Damage to the property is estimated at $15,000. Damages estimated at $2,000 and $3,000 were done to the homes on either side of the burned-out structure.

No injuries were reported.

The property was valued at $24,400 and is owned by Jimmie Roberts of Oregon, according to the Lucas County Auditor's Web site.
