Five people were left homeless after someone threw a firebomb on the porch of a house in East Toledo early today, authorities said.

There were no injuries, Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld of the Toledo Fire Department said.

Three adults and two children had escaped unhurt by the time fire crews arrived about 4:05 a.m. and found fire at 454 Thurston St., Lieutenant Hertzfeld said. It took firefighters at least two hours to extinguish the blaze, he said.

The fire started when someone threw a Molotov cocktail onto the porch of the 1 1/2-story wood-frame house, the fire lieutenant said. The fire then spread into the house, he said.

A person was questioned about the fire and was later released, Lieutenant Hertzfeld said.

The fire damage was estimated at $25,000, according to the lieutenant. Volunteers from The American Red Cross Greater Toledo Chapter assisted the fire victims, he said.

The Lucas County auditor's Web site lists D & G Preferred Properties LLC as the owner of the house. It was built in 1918.
