The spokesman for the Toledo Fire Department was hospitalized today after a two-vehicle crash near downtown.

Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld was turning onto Cherry Street from Erie Street at 12:05 p.m., responding to an emergency situation, when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle, said police Sgt. Joe Heffernan.

The driver of the second vehicle, Cynthia Booth, of Petersburg, Mich., was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, Sergeant Heffernan said.

The lieutenant was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center where information about his condition was not available. Sergeant Heffernan said the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Ms. Booth had "no visible injuries," the sergeant said.
