SANDUSKY -- A Clyde, Ohio, man was injured when a car and a pickup collided Tuesday on West Bogart Road in Erie County's Perkins Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Mario Vargas, 22, who was driving the car, was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center with incapacitating injuries, troopers at the patrol's Sandusky said. He was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said Wednesday.

Mr. Vargas was westbound on Bogart about 4:35 p.m. when for unknown reasons he made several unsafe passes at high-rated speed and then sideswiped a pickup driven by Eugene Stockmaster, 67, of Bellevue, Ohio, the patrol said.

The pickup then drove off the right side of the road, got back on the road, only to drive off the left side of the road. The truck then struck a guardrail, a traffic sign, and overturned several times, troopers said.

Mr. Stockmaster and his wife, Carol Stockmaster, 65, who was his passenger, were not injured, according to the patrol. They were wearing seat belts, troopers said. Mr. Vargas was not, they said.

The crash remains under investigation, with no citations issued yet, troopers said.

Sandusky is about 55 miles east of Toledo.
