The Toledo Police Department is stepping up enforcement yet again in an I-475 construction zone after receiving a grant to pay for officers’ overtime patrols.

The $35,000 Traffic Safety Grant, funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by the Ohio Department of Criminal Justice Services, will provide for extra patrols at various times between now and Nov. 1, the police department’s traffic section announced.

“Officers .... will patrol exclusively within the I-475 construction zone,” with the 50-mph speed limit to be strictly enforced, the statement said.

The department received similar grants last year and in 2011 for extra patrols between Monroe Street and I-75.
