Perrysburg woman held after arson conviction

BOWLING GREEN — After a three-day trial, a Perrysburg woman was convicted Wednesday of setting a fire at a business she owned to collect the insurance money.

A jury in Wood County Common Pleas Court deliberated about three hours, then returned guilty verdicts against Patricia Groves, 58, on charges of aggravated arson and insurance fraud. She started a fire Dec. 20, 2011, at Downey’s Daisy Home Services, 777 Dixie Hwy. in Rossford then filed an insurance claim for $14,787.

Groves, who had been free on her own recognizance, was taken into custody. Judge Alan Mayberry set bond at $50,000; sentencing is Aug. 23.
