A Bowling Green man was arrested and charged with domestic violence after a five-hour standoff with police on Friday afternoon.

Bowling Green police received a tip and responded to the residence of James Henley, 45, at 826 Conneaut Ave.

Officers attempted to serve a domestic violence warrant to Mr. Henley, who was at home with three children. The suspect refused to exit his home and initially would not allow the children to leave.

He eventually did let the three minors leave, but he refused to exit, necessitating the intervention of the Wood County Sheriff's Department Special Response Team. The team entered the residence and placed Mr. Henley into custody at 1:30 p.m. after deploying chemical munitions.

Authorities said Mr. Henley was initially transported to Wood County hospital in Bowling Green to receive treatment for an unrelated medical condition. He is being held in custody at Wood County Justice Center.
