HURON, Ohio -- State Rt. 2 is closed in eastern Erie County because of a suspected pipe bomb found along the highway today, authorities say.

The road closed about 11:22 a.m. between the interchanges at State Rts. 61 and 60 after the suspicious object was discovered, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. As of 1 p.m., authorities had not yet confirmed that the device was, in fact, a bomb, a patrol dispatcher said.

The closest alternative routes are U.S. 6 and the Ohio Turnpike.
