Lake Township Police arrested a man Friday night who the Ohio Highway Patrol said pulled a loaded handgun on a trooper during a traffic stop on the Ohio Turnpike near I-280 on Thursday afternoon before escaping on foot.

Police arrested Patrick Laverne Hammond, 42, of Lorain, Ohio, at the Petro gas station just off I-280 at 10:24 p.m.

An officer saw Hammond in the parking lot Friday and he fled on foot and attempted to hide, according to the patrol which reported that Lake Township used a dog and when it confronted Hammond he surrendered.

The site of Friday’s arrest was about a quarter of a mile from where a man fled from authorities at 2 p.m. Thursday, running northwest from the turnpike.

Hammond, who is on federal probation for armed robbery, was booked into the Wood County jail on charges of having weapons under disability, carrying a concealed weapon, assault on a police officer, obstructing official business, possessing a defaced firearm, and marked lanes.

He is to be arraigned Monday in Perrysburg Municipal Court. Bond is $105,500.
