1 person killed in crash near Fostoria

NEW RIEGEL, Ohio -- A Willard, Ohio woman died today after her car collided with a semi at the intersection of U.S. 224 and State Rt. 587 in Loudon Township in Seneca County, southeast of Fostoria.

The Ohio Highway Patrol troopers said a 2011 Freightliner Commercial tractor trailer driven by Bryan K. Hughes, 34, of Oak Harbor, was traveling westbound on U.S. 224 at about 11 a.m., when a southbound 2003 Pontiac Vibe driven by Victoria N. McKelvey, 38, of Willard, ran a stop sign on State Rt. 587 and collided with the semi.

Ms. McKelvey was pronounced dead at the scene by Seneca County coroner Mark Akers. Her daughter, Electa McKelvey, 7, a passenger in the vehicle, she was flown to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. A hospital spokesman confirmed she was there but did not have a condition.

Mrs. McKelvey was not wearing a seat belt and she was ejected from the vehicle, troopers reported. Her daughter was using a child booster seat, but it was not properly secured, troopers said.
