Shooter convicted of assault

A Toledo man who shot a man in the chest was found guilty Thursday of aggravated assault with a firearms specification.

Corey L. Riley, 31, of 4429 Burnham Ave. entered an Alford plea before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Ruth Ann Franks.

In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit to committing a crime, but acknowledges evidence is sufficient for a conviction.

Judge Franks set sentencing for Aug. 8 for Riley, who shot Victor Hunt, 46, of Toledo March 9 in an alley in the 1400 block of Prouty Avenue in South Toledo.
