Hair snagged by a fisherman's line over the weekend is human, police said.

Test results from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations came back today, said Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan.

The next step will be to determine if DNA can be extracted from the hair and, if that's possible, forensic specialists might be able to make a match..

After the hair was found, there was much speculation that it could belong to missing 18-month-old Elaina Steinfurth, who was reportedly last seen at an East Toledo home on June 2.

Because the hair is human, divers from the Toledo Fire Department were sent to the Maumee River today, with the U.S. Coast Guard, to conduct another search.

"We've already checked, been up and down that river, numerous times," Sergeant Heffernan said. "But that doesn't mean we didn't miss it. It's very hard to find things in that river. You're looking at zero visibility."
