Roads re-opened, residents returned home and services were never disrupted after a gas line was broken today in West Toledo.

The evacuations on Central Avenue, near the break between Upton Avenue and Jackman Road, were precautionary, said Columbia Gas spokesman Jason Copsey.

The 4 inch, medium-pressure gas line was broken just before 9 a.m. by a construction crew and was shut down at about 11:30 a.m.

Toledo police and fire crews were on scene to monitor. Traffic moved freely on Upton, and was only shut down between Jackman and Upton on Central. The Ohio Department of Transportation reported, at 1:06 p.m., that Central had reopened and a department spokesman said the leak was related to ongoing construction along nearby I-475.

In May, a gas line was broken by a construction crew while it was on Upton near Central.
