Drunken-driving checkpoint yields no intoxicated drivers in Defiance

DEFIANCE — A drunken-driving checkpoint and nearby patrols in town Thursday night yielded no intoxicated drivers, an Ohio Highway Patrol official said.

The checkpoint was set up from 9 p.m. to midnight on Clinton Street at Arabella Avenue. None of 567 vehicles that passed through was diverted for secondary inspection and no impaired drivers were arrested by patrol units who were working in the areas surrounding the checkpoint, a patrol statement said.

Lt. Kevin Thomas, commander of the patrol’s Defiance post, said that despite brief traffic delays, officers “received a tremendous amount of public support.”

The checkpoint and patrols were funded through federal grants.

Defiance is about 55 miles southwest of Toledo.
