Tiffin man in critical condition after SUV crash

TIFFIN -- A Tiffin man was seriously injured when a sport utility vehicle he was driving and another SUV collided Monday night on State Rt. 53 near this Seneca County community, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Jeffrey Wise, 52, was listed in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said.

Mr. Wise was driving south on Route 53 near County Road 38 about 8:10 p.m. when his vehicle was struck by a northbound SUV driven by Terry Westerman, 34, also of Tiffin, who had lost control, according to the patrol's Fremont post. The Wise vehicle then drove off the road and struck a utility pole, the patrol said.

The patrol did not say whether the crash occurred north or south of Road 38, which would be in Pleasant Township or in Clinton Township respectively. Troopers did not say whether the drivers wore seat belts.

The crash remained under investigation.

Tiffin, the seat of Seneca County, is about 50 miles southeast of Toledo.
