MONROE — A Monroe man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a pickup on South Custer Road in Monroe County’s Raisinville Township.

David Leveque, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.

Mr. Leveque was westbound on South Custer at Ida Maybee Road about 4:10 a.m. Tuesday when his motorcycle was struck by a truck driven by John Poniewozik, 57, also of Monroe, who was southbound on Ida Maybee, according to the sheriff’s office. It appears the truck stopped at the stop sign for southbound Ida Maybee and then began to cross South Custer when the crash occurred, deputies said.

Mr. Leveque was not wearing a helmet, and Mr. Poniewozik was wearing a seat belt, the report said.

The report said Mr. Poniewozik declined medical treatment for minor injuries.
