Toledo police attributed the snarled traffic to a hit-skip crash that occurred about 3 a.m. when a sport utility vehicle struck a utility pole at South Avenue and Anthony Wayne Trail. The impact severed several electrical lines, knocking out electrical service for about 2,800 Toledo Edison customers.

By 7:30 a.m., Edison crews had restored power to all customers, according to Edison spokesman Hans Rosebrock.

The Trail is now open in both directions, but inbound traffic had been forced to exit at Hawley Street, while Edison repair crews replaced the utility pole and assess other damage including downed power lines.

A city crew also was working on the traffic signals to ensure correct timing.

Traffic was being regulated by stop signs and motorists' good will.
