Area law enforcement agencies operated sobriety checkpoints over the weekend at four locations in Lucas County.

During the operation late Saturday through early Sunday, agents interacted with 589 drivers, of whom 43 were further evaluated for impairment. Two drivers were arrested for driving while impaired and three on outstanding warrants, the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Also, seven drivers were cited for driving under suspended license and six for failing to wear seat belts.

The checkpoints were at Reynolds Road south of Central Avenue; Central near Exmoor Drive; Airport Highway east of I-475/U.S. 23, and on Central west of King Road. Each checkpoint operated for about 90 minutes and then moved to the next location.

The checkpoints were funded through a federal grant.
