Toledo woman arrested in connection with kidnapping

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green police tonight have arrested a Toledo woman accused of the abduction and robbery of a University of Toledo student from China.

Brittany J. Long, 20, of Toledo was wanted on kidnapping and robbery warrants before her 7 p.m. arrest. Police said she was among a group that on Sunday kidnapped a 20-year-old student, robbed him at knifepoint, tried to extract ransom, and hours later released the victim uninjured.

Ms. Long was being booked into the Wood County jail tonight. Details of the arrest were unavailable.

Police would not identify the victim or provide more information about him because he told authorities the suspects threatened to kill him if he reported the incident.

The victim told police he was in an online Chinese chat room Saturday when he received a stranger’s message asking if he wanted to go to Cedar Point. They met up the next day, but the victim told police that instead of a trip to Cedar Point, he was taken to a vacant house on Palmer Avenue in Bowling Green and robbed of his cell phone and wallet by gunpoint.

The three people in the car then drove him to the Econo Lodge in Holland and unsuccessfully tried to secure a ransom from the victim's parents before he was released unharmed near his apartment, the victim reported.

The victim told police that a white female, whom police later identified as Ms. Long, an Asian woman and a white man were in the car that picked him up.

The police are trying to identify the other individuals who were in the car.
