TIFFIN -- A motorcyclist from southern Ohio was killed when he struck the back of a sport-utility vehicle and was thrown into oncoming traffic on State Rt. 53 south of Fort Seneca in Seneca County's Pleasant Township, said troopers at the Fremont post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Kurtis L. Morgan, 22, of Seaman, Ohio, was riding his northbound on Route 53 about 6:40 p.m. when he struck the rear of the SUV, which was slowing down in traffic, troopers said. Mr. Morgan was ejected from his motorcycle and into the southbound lane of the road, where he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Paul Madura, Jr., 58, of Glen Gardner, N.J.

Mr. Morgan, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Madura drove off the west side of the road, but was not injured, troopers said. The SUV driver, Joseph Cunningham, 20, of Toledo, also was uninjured.

Route 53 was closed for three hours after the crash.
