DEFIANCE — A local and federal investigation prompted the search of a city business accused of manufacturing large amounts of synthetic drugs.

Wholesalers BBD, LLC, 1503 Baltimore St. was searched by authorities Tuesday, according to information from the Defiance County prosecutor’s office.

County Prosecutor Morris Murray did not return a call seeking more information.

In a news release from Mr. Murray’s office, authorities allege that the business manufactures synthetic cannabinoids for consumption “as opposed to the claim that these substances are a type of potpourri or incense.”

The release alleges that the company ships the substance all over the country.

The investigation was conducted by the Multi Area Narcotics Task Force, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration. The Secret Service, the Defiance County Sheriff's Office, and the Defiance Police Department also aided in the search.
