Holdup of deputy brings 10-year prison term

A Toledo man who tried to rob an off-duty Lucas County sheriff’s deputy at gunpoint was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison.

Andrew Short, 18, of 540 Church St., had pleaded guilty July 23 before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Myron Duhart to aggravated robbery with a firearms specification for the April 18 incident.

Short was driving around with four friends about 1:20 a.m. when he confronted Deputy Daniel Hannon, who was letting his dog out, in the 2600 block of 119th Street. Mr. Hannon said he was a deputy, but Short still tried to rob him. Mr. Hannon shot Short once in the stomach.

Assistant Lucas County Prosecutor Andy Lastra said the four individuals with Short were initially indicted for aggravated robbery. Charges were dismissed because they did not get out of the car and did not have guns.
