A Swanton man who was critically injured early Friday when his motorcycle collided with a car driven by a prominent doctor has died.

Dr. Maneesha Pandey, a Lucas County deputy coroner, said an autopsy on the body of Lawrence J. Hilton, 54, will be performed Monday or Tuesday.

Mr. Hilton was eastbound on Dorr Street at Richards Road in southwest Toledo about 6 a.m. Friday when he struck the side of an auto driven south on Richards by Dr. Nabil A. Ebraheim, 62, of Ottawa Hills, police said.

According to the report, Dr. Ebraheim, an orthopedic specialist at the University of Toledo Medical Center, stopped for a flashing red traffic light on Richards before proceeding into the intersection, where a flashing yellow signal governed east-west traffic.

Mr. Hilton, an auto mechanic at the University of Toledo, wore a helmet. He was taken to Toledo Hospital. The time of his death was not immediately reported.

Both drivers were on their way to work, police said.

UTMC is the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital.
