WAUSEON -- A fire that apparently started on the side porch of a triplex early today caused damage estimated at $50,000.

Wauseon Assistant Fire Chief Fred Allen said firefighters from Wauseon and Morenci, Mich. responded just before 1 a.m. to the two-story, wood-frame structure at 131 Beech St. When they arrived, the five persons inside the three apartments had gotten out, and smoke alarms were audible, he said.

One woman, who had jumped out of second-story window, was taken to the Fulton County Health Center with back pain, he said. The property is owned by Steve Roth.
