A Toledo man was shot in the central city Sunday night, authorities said.

Travelle Broadnax, 26, of Walnut Street, was taken to Toledo Hospital with several gunshot wounds in the legs. His condition was unavailable at the hospital but Toledo police said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Police said Broadnax and several others were about to start gambling at Isherwood and Macomber streets about 8:45 p.m. when a disagreement occurred between him and another man, who then threatened to shoot him. Broadnax told police he then pushed the other man, challenged him to follow through with the threat, and walked into the street, at which time the latter pulled a handgun and fired five or six shots, hitting him in the legs.

Broadnax told police he then ran into a field and and pretended to be dead so the gunman would stop shooting. The victim then walked down the street where a family member picked him up and took him to a relative's home, where he was later taken to the hospital, according to a police report.

The victim told police he did not know the assailant.

There was no word of arrests. The incident remained under investigation.
