Texas man killed, Weston woman injured in Wood County motorcycle accident

WESTON -- A 62-year-old man from Bells, Texas, was killed and a Weston woman injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday, according to the Wood County Sheriff's Office.

About 5:30 p.m. Robert Theis, who was driving a motorcycle west on U.S. 6, hit a railroad crossing gate near Weston, causing the bike to run off the north side of the road and land in a field.

Witnesses say the crossing gate was down and crossing lights were flashing, deputies said.

His passenger, Donette Powers, 50, was taken to Wood County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's office..

Mr. Theis, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
