GENOA, Ohio — Authorities on Tuesday identified Emily Gagnon of Holliston, Mass., as the bicyclist who was killed in a collision with a sport utility vehicle at a rural intersection on State Rt. 163 in Ottawa County on Monday evening.

Miss Gagnon, 21, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Sandusky post.

Miss Gagnon, a recent graduate of Westfield State University, was en route from her home to San Francisco, raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, the patrol said.

The victim was riding west on Route 163 near Nissen Road east of Genoa about 7:23 p.m. Monday when her bicycle was struck from behind by an SUV driven by Lynne Smith, 49, of Martin, Ohio, according to the patrol.

Ms. Smith was adjusting her sun visor because of the sun glare when the collision occurred, troopers said.

Ms. Smith was not injured. She wore a seat belt, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
