METAMORA, Ohio -- A motorcyclist and his passenger were injured today as their motorcycle drove off the road in Fulton County's Amboy Township, troopers at the Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Ronald Freitag, Sr., 52, of Luckey, Ohio, was westbound on State Rt. 120 west of Metamora about 12:05 p.m. when he traveled off the north side of the road and hit a mailbox. As he tried to get back on the roadway, he lost control and traveled off the south side of Route 281. The motorcycle overturned, and he and his passenger, Tamara Freitag, 46, were thrown from it. Neither he nor Mrs. Freitag, his wife, were wearing helmets, according to the patrol.

They were taken by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. Mrs. Freitag was listed in critical condition. A hospital spokesman said there was no patient listing for Mr. Freitag.
