Man struck by pick-up killed
9/28/2013MONROE — A LaSalle Township man was struck and killed by a pickup truck on South Telegraph Road near here as he walked down the road while using a cell phone just after midnight today, authorities said.
Leo Steinman II, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene in LaSalle Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Mr. Steinman was walking south on South Telegraph in the southbound travel lane just north of North Otter Creek Road about 12:05 a.m. when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Christian Byrd, 23, of Monroe, deputies said. Mr. Byrd was not injured, and neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash, which remained under investigation later Saturday, according to the report.
